Lord, hold our troops in your loving hand.  Protect them as they protect us.  Bless them and their families for their selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need.
May this Christmas season be a celebration for family, friends and all our brother Knights.
Finally, may the Reverend Father Michael J. McGivney, our founder, bless you with much happiness, good health and prosperity in the New Year.

Alzheimer Fund Raiser

A new fund raising event was the Alzheimer’s Relief Fund coordinated by Brother Michael Zdanowski, who accepted the challenge of organizing this activity.  This is a Knight of Columbus State sponsored activity and one that is starting to receive a great deal of interest among local councils. The Knights collected donations in front of Shop Rite and Stop ‘n Shop Supermarkets all day Saturday, November 20, 2010. In addition, our Knights took positions outside of St. Alphonsus and St. George’s Churches after Saturday evening Mass, and after all Sundays Masses at both churches on the same weekend.

The professionally made signs identified the Knights of Columbus as the sponsor of the activity, along with where the donations were going. In this case, money collected will go to caregiver relief, educational programs and nursing care for those affected with Alzheimer’s.  Our Knights wore aprons with the Knights of Columbus printed on the front and back of the apron along with the words Alzheimer’s Relief Fund. Everyone contributing a donation received a purple wrist band with the words, “Knights of Columbus” and “Alzheimer Awareness”. The two day collection brought many individuals who stopped to share a few thoughts about a loved one with Alzheimer’s or someone they knew with the illness.  Each person had a brief antidote to share, then became very quiet, and simply walked away with bowed head.

Thanks to all the Knights and St. Alphonsus 8th Grade volunteers who helped make this program a huge success!
